LowerShelf Games
August 25, 2023
Every week from here on out, LowerShelf will be posting a new game which will be added to our Gamebase, and available for everyone to learn how to play!
This week's game 21 was submitted by Elliegerman B. and the full and detailed instructions can be found here.
Derived from some obvious roots within a casino or the Vegas Strip, the card game 21 brings the dealer's table to your own very home.... without having to bet it.
21 is great for any group of friends or family looking for a slower paced game with some strategic thinking. The game is played to win 5 rounds and take home the championship.
The rounds are pretty fast paced and the game is easy to pickup, so you can play with a wide range of ages.
Check out our 1 minute tutorial below!
The Goal of the Card Game 21:
Players are trying to get the sum of their cards as close to 21 as possible to win each round.
The Materials for the Card Game 21:
Deck of Cards
The Setup for the Card Game 21:
Gather your friends and family to put together 3-7 players.
Once you have your group, have the youngest player be the 1st dealer
They are going to deal each player 2 face down cards
The Directions for the Card Game 21:
The dealer will start the game by simply flipping over their 1st card face up so all players can see it.
The next clockwise player, Player 2, will then look at their own 2 cards; and determine the sum of their cards.
For example: a 2 of Clubs and a 9 of Hearts would add up to a sum of 11.
Player 2 then gets to decide if they want to Hit, Stay, or Fold
Hit - Ask for another card from the dealer
Stay - Stay with the current cards they have
Fold - Discard and choose not to play the round
If Player 2 does decide to hit, then the card gets added to the player's sum.
For example: a 2 of Clubs, a 9 of Hearts, and an 8 of Spades would add up to a sum of 19.
Then Player 3 will take their turn and decide if they want to hit, stay, or fold.
Once each player has taken their turn, the dealer will flip over their 2nd card face up.
If the total sum of the dealer's cards are equal or less than 16, they must hit until it goes over 16.
Once the dealer's sum of cards is over 16, they must stay.
Once the dealer busts or stays, then the other players will show what they had, and add up their totals.
Whichever player was closest to 21 will win the round!
When a players wins 5 rounds of 21, they win the game!
Rules for the Card Game 21:
Aces can be equal to 1 or 11, depending on the player's choice
Face cards are equal to 10
If players tie a round, both players will earn a win
Get the family together tonight, or bring 21 out when you are hanging with your friends at a party. 21 is a fun game with some real suspense and risk involved. Some similar strategy based card games include Black Jack, Graduation, and Pony Chase.
