LowerShelf Games

LowerShelf Games posts new games every week to our blog and add to our Gamebase. These games are free and available for everyone to learn how to play!
Our game this week, Electric Shock, was submitted by Basti Hardt, and was our first game added from Germany!
Thomas Edison did a lot of things right when it came to electricity. But did he know how fun of a game would be made after his departure? Electric Shock does everything right when it comes to making a group game, and Edison can take no credit on it's behalf.
Electric Shock is so effective as a group game because it allows as many players to play as the game can get. Perfect for school classes, parties and church groups.
In addition to group size, the game Electric Shock requires little to no materials (some chairs if preferred), is easy to learn, and leaves nobody out from playing!
Check out our 1 minute tutorial below!
How to play Electric Shock:
The Goal of the game Electric Shock:
Two teams will be racing by squeezing the hand of their teammate in front of them, until the squeeze makes it to the front of the team, and they grab the object first to win.
After each win, the players on the winning respective team will rotate their "Team Leader". The teams are trying to win enough rounds so that their initial "Team Leader" makes it back to the front of the line.
The Materials for the game Electric Shock:
Chairs are preferred to play with because players can sit (but not necessarily needed)
Any object that a player can grab (unless you have a "Helper")
The Setup for the game Electric Shock:
The first step is gathering your group together and determining how many players you have. As mentioned the game is for large groups, meaning it will work best with 9 or more players.
If you have an odd number of players, split the teams into 2 teams evenly, and select 1 player to be the "Gamemaster"
If you have an even number of players, split the teams into 2 teams evenly, and select 1 player to be the "Gamemaster" and 1 player to be the "Helper"
Then have each team sit or stand in a single file line.
2 lines of chairs with players facing forward.
Have the Gamemaster stand behind the 2 lines in the back, and place an object at the front of the 2 lines
The Directions for the game Electric Shock:
When ready, the Gamemaster will have all players hold the hand their teammate in front and back of them.
Then the Gamemaster will have all the players shut their eyes.
And when all is silent, and anticipation is building... the Gamemaster will subtly tap the shoulders of the 2 teams' back players.
The tap starts the electric shock!
And the players will then squeeze the hand of their teammate in front of them, and then that player will squeeze the hand of their next teammate, and so on, until it gets to the front of the line
When the front 2 players are shocked (“Teamleaders”) will open their eyes and reach for the item
1st team to grab the item wins the round!
After a win, the winning team rotates the Teamleader to the back of the chain, and the losing team remains.
When a team wins enough times for the Teamleader to make it back to the front of the chain, they win the game!
The Rules for the game Electric Shock:
If you do have a "Helper" in the game, instead of using an object for the teams to try and grab, simply have the "Helper" stand at the front, and Teamleaders will give the "Helper" a high five to win.
Please make sure you are being gentle when squeezing your teammate's hands. Nobody wants to get injured.
Also if you are the "Gamemaster", make sure to keep a watchful eye for any cheating going on!
Wrap-up
We love Electric Shock because of its universality. The game is not just great for a group of kids but just as fun with a group of adults, or even a mix of ages! Electric Shock provides some quick jolts of energy to get your group going.
If you are looking for more great group games like Electric Shock. Check out these ones including Cheers Governor, Flip Cup, and Salad Bowl. Trust me you won't need Edison for any of these games either, so get playing!
